Learning for the Future

In June and July 2025, 1001 students from year 5 to year 13 in England completed Teach the Future’s survey, sharing their views on and experiences of climate change and their education.

We used panel provider Norstat to collect our responses, and the respondents reflect the national population of school students in England.

At the start of the survey, respondents were given this definition of climate change to help frame their answers:

The respondents shared the following results:

πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ“ 90% said they think its important for all students to learn about climate change
⬆️ 81% said they want to learn more about climate change
πŸ™‹ 84% said they want to learn what they can do to help stop climate change in the rest of their time at school
πŸ—ΊοΈ Geography (64%) and Science (53%) are the subjects where students in yrs 9-13 say they’ve learnt about climate change – less than 20% say they’ve learnt about climate change in any other subject
🏞️ We found significant differences in opinion according to access to nature respondents had in the week before answering our survey.
