About

The Fairtrade Universities programme, delivered in partnership with the Fairtrade Foundation, gives universities the opportunity to showcase actions for climate justice, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), as well as ethical sourcing. Universities can achieve the Fairtrade University award by integrating Fairtrade principles into their curricula, procurement practices, research, and policies. Additionally, this mission can be supported through climate justice and SDG initiatives, events, and campaigns.

Our research shows students are calling for action. 89% want to buy more products from producers that are paid fairly, and 71% believe their university should lead the way by buying and selling Fairtrade products on campus, and having a policy that shows they support the fair treatment of producers and the responsible sourcing of products. Being a Fairtrade University is a clear sign to students that these issues are being taken seriously.
