About

Teach the Teacher is a youth-led initiative responding to the youth-demand for climate education and the research showing that 70% of teachers don’t feel adequately trained to teach about climate change (Teach the Future, 2021).

We support initial teacher education providers to improve their climate education offering for trainee teachers by delivering youth-led climate education workshops as part of the curriculum. Working with a local school or SOS UK youth volunteers we deliver free, 1-2 hour interactive workshops exploring the importance of climate education, demystifying what a quality climate education can look like, understanding the youth perspective on climate change and their education, and working collectively and creatively to draw links between climate change and the school experience.

Our workshops offer trainee teachers the opportunity to gain a more holistic understanding of climate education and to flip the typical classroom dynamic, learning directly from the young people they’re about to teach.

Testimonials

2026 marks our third year of working with ITE providers across the UK to deliver Teach the Teacher climate education workshops for their trainees. Hear below from some of the trainees about their experience:

“I feel I have a better understanding on how to talk about climate change in the classroom. I am also more confident and reassured that you don’t have to be an expert on the topic to teach it.”

“To hear from a student’s perspective was what I most took away from it because any sort of, like climate training we’ve had previously, to deal with climate anxiety, things like that was always from a senior perspective, like from a lecturer.”

“I didn’t realise how much we could embed teaching about climate change into our subject and in the wider school”
