SOS UK makes the switch to sustainable insurance

We are delighted to announce that SOS UK has made the switch to fossil-free, ethical insurance thanks to our new broker, Planet Protection.

Despite the insurance sector recognising the severe human and financial toll climate change will have, some insurers choose to renew insurance products that facilitate fossil fuel expansion. By continuing to support the coal, oil and gas sectors, these insurers are knowingly compromising the futures of young people in exchange for billions of pounds in premiums from the fossil fuel industry.

As a student-led organisation, we think that this is unacceptable.

We strongly believe that student organisations have a part to play in protecting the future of the students and young people we represent. This includes ensuring that our money is never used to undermine their interests.

Planet Protection prioritises underwriting partners that do not support the fossil fuel industry through direct investments or underwriting. Their work supporting nature and community-positive programmes puts their clients’ money to good use rather than supporting a system that exploits people and the planet. We believe their business values align with ours and those of the wider student movement.
