GISU is our flagship sustainability awards programme and support package for the student movement. It is designed to help Elected Officers and Career Staff at Students’ Unions run effective projects and campaigns, using our power in the student movement to create lasting change.

‍What is GISU?

‍Green Impact started with a student idea in 2006, and has since grown into an award winning international programme that reaches tens of thousands of people each year - Green Impact Students’ Unions alone has helped 167 Students’ Unions to champion the student voice on sustainability.

Joining GISU will provide the opportunity to be part of a supportive cohort of Students’ Unions working towards a shared goal of good practice in sustainability and social justice. We provide useful resources to aid your work, as well as the means to exchange best practice, share experiences, and learn from one another's successes and challenges.

When you sign up to GISU, you will gain access to our toolkit, which will provide structure to your campaigns, make your physical spaces more friendly to the planet, and help you make your SU one of the leaders in sustainability. You can then be recognised with awards at the end of the academic year!

‍We have some changes for this year, to make GISU better than ever!

• Your team will have access to our brand new and improved toolkit software. You can read about the toolkit in our user guide.
• Under a new category, we are giving SUs the opportunity to select up to five criteria from a range of ten themes. These criteria cover themes such as mental health, biodiversity, energy, poverty, and food. Each SU can choose the criteria that align with their priorities and fits the demographic of their students.
