VACANCY: Teach the Teacher Coordinator

Come and join the Teach the Teacher team! We’re delighted to be recruiting up to 4 Teach the Teacher Coordinators to help us run the project in 2024.

This role is ideal for a current student between the ages of 14-25.

Teach the Teacher is a student-led campaign to improve climate education in schools by supporting students to run ‘Teach the Teacher’ sessions. The team of student staff work together to run peer-to-peer training sessions to upskill students to run Teach the Teacher sessions in their own schools, with their own teachers. These sessions explore climate education, climate anxiety, and what it’s like to be a young person growing up in the climate crisis.

The student staff team coordinate all aspects of the project, with the support of an SOS-UK core staff member. This includes the recruitment and training of student volunteers, the development and maintenance of training and support materials, working with the research team at SOS-UK to monitor reach and impact, and support wider communications on social media and mainstream news outlets about the project, including presenting the project at local, regional and national events.

These roles make an excellent professional development opportunity for a student or young person based anywhere in the UK interested in climate justice and education. We will support the successful candidate to manage their responsibilities to minimise impact on their education, and their wellbeing will be prioritised. We're not expecting applicants to know everything from day one, and mentoring, guidance and development opportunities will be provided within the role. Please thoroughly read through the Coordinator role profile before completing the application form.

Before applying please carefully consider if you have time to take on the role without it negatively impacting your education or wellbeing. We ask that paid staff are available for Zoom calls a couple of times in the week. If you aren't in a position to take on a paid role we'd encourage you to consider joining our volunteer team!

To apply, please fill out and submit our application form by Monday 15thJanuary 2024, 12:00pm GMT.

Applicants will be notified on the outcome of their application on 17th January and interviews will likely take place on Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th January via Zoom.

SOS-UK values climate justice and diversity in ability, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, class and other protected characteristics. We are especially keen to encourage applications from people currently under-represented in the environment movement. We acknowledge that the environmental sector is the second least diverse sector in the UK and currently experiences, needs and priorities of marginalised groups are often left out of responses to the climate emergency, this is something we are keen to address.

In line with our safeguarding policies, and to support the prioritisation of education and wellbeing in the campaign, we require that successful applicants under 18 years old provide parental consent. Successful applicants over 18 will be asked to have an enhanced DBS check.
