Location: Homeworking in or near to our target region in the North West, specifically within the Liverpool, Manchester and Preston area.
About the role
SOS-UK are delighted to be recruiting Climate Action Plan Coordinators as part of our Green Schools Revolution. Coordinators will support secondary schools in the development of Climate Action Plans using a unique student-led approach.
In accordance with Department for Education’s Climate Change and Sustainability Strategy, from 2025 all schools in England should have a Climate Action Plan (CAP) in place. This role will support the development of a set of good practice examples and a bank of resources to help schools in the North West of England create and implement impactful CAPs through youth social action. To do this we are working with secondary schools to facilitate teams of pupils to lead the development of a CAP for their school. Climate Action Plan Coordinators will work with project managers to coordinate all aspects of the project. This includes editing and maintaining resources, independently delivering content in schools both in-person and online, supporting with the organisation and running of events, working with the research team at SOS-UK to monitor reach and impact, and supporting communications about the project on social media and mainstream news outlets.
These roles make an excellent professional development opportunity for a student or young person interested in climate justice and education. We will support the successful candidate to manage their responsibilities to minimise impact on their education, and their wellbeing will be prioritised. Previous experience is not necessary - mentoring, guidance and development opportunities will be provided within the role.
Please note, most of the in-person delivery for this role will be based in the Liverpool, Manchester and Preston area, we are therefore ideally looking for candidates who reside within or can easily travel to this area on a semi-regular basis.
How to apply
Please thoroughly read the coordinator role profile before completing the application form. Before applying please carefully consider if you have time to take on the role without it negatively impacting your education or wellbeing. We ask that paid staff are available for online calls a couple of times in the week and for irregular delivery within school hours. If you are not able to take on a paid role, we encourage you to consider volunteering with us instead, for example for Teach the Future or Teach the Teacher!
To apply, please fill out and submit this application form by Sunday 28th July, 11:59pm BST. Invitations to interview will be sent on Thursday 1st August. Interviews are due to take place on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th August.
Equal opportunities
SOS-UK values climate justice and diversity in ability, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, class and other protected characteristics. We are especially keen to encourage applications from people currently under-represented in the environment movement. We acknowledge that the environmental sector is the second least diverse sector in the UK and currently experiences, needs and priorities of marginalised groups are often left out of responses to the climate emergency, this is something we are keen to address.
We have a guaranteed interview scheme for people of colour and disabled people who meet the essential criteria (opt-in - please see the application form).
