We just received our UNESCO award in Paris
It recognises the amazing work of Green Impact over the last decade.
Our vice president Shakira and one of our LGBT+ officers Melantha have travelled to Paris to accept our UNESCO prize for education for sustainable development, and we're honoured to have received it this afternoon.
For ten years now, Green Impact has helped hundreds of students' unions improve their own sustainability practices, as well as taking this transformational behaviour change framework into organisations right across society.
Together, we've achieved over 250,000 greening actions, over the equivalent of 300 institutional years. It's put our movement at the heart of the sustainability agenda here in the UK, and this award recognises your efforts on a global stage.
Accepting the award, Melantha told attendees that 'the vision for our sustainability work is simple: All students, regardless of what they are studying, leave tertiary education equipped and motivated to make society a better place'.
'We dedicate this award to our students' unions, and all the other participants in Green Impact who have contributed to its success.'
We were one of three winners of this award, alongside the Centre for Community Regeneration and Development in Cameroon, and the Okayama ESD Promotion Commission in Japan.
To be peers with such incredible projects is a true honour, and testament to the long lasting dedication to sustainability across our student movement.
This award is particularly special to receive as we celebrate ten years of Green Impact, and we're proud to have made sure that the programme will be as exciting in the ten years to come as it has been in the decade behind us.
We've revamped Green Impact for students' unions so it's leaner and more focused. And we've devised a brand new pilot specifically for colleges and their unions.
Oh, and that massive cheque you can see us holding? We're giving that prize money to you.
