Furthering Green Impact's reach in colleges

The second year of our pilot project in FE institutions and unions launches

Students on Campus

Students across further education are passionate about embedding sustainability into their education experience, but FE students' unions often struggle to find capacity to take meaningful action.

That's why last year we tinkered with a new approach to Green Impact, designed specifically for unions and institutions in the further education sector. We started the pilot in 2016 in partnership with the Association of Colleges and have now extended it to cover 2017/18. The programme's been designed to be a one-stop-shop for sustainability and social responsibility change across your college, covering student engagement and campaigns, environmental management and curriculum reform.

Most importantly of all, it's designed so colleges and FE students' unions can take action together in partnership, with the scheme designed specifically to thrive across further education.

Last year a handful of keen colleges took part, however this year we are working hard to increase the reach of the programme and the support we will provide to help make it a success. There will be a monthly series of support calls, and we will bring pilot organisations together to share ideas, challenges and good practice, helping us tweak the programme for national release in 2018/19.

We are still looking for more pilot organisations to come on board and help shape this programme for the sector. If you are interested, you can find out more here, or you can get in touch to ask more questions by contacting jo.kemp@nus.org.uk
